My name is Gemma. My grandma calls me 'Jim Jam Gem Jemima'. A chick who made me coffee at Starbucks in California called my name out as 'Jamma'. My Dad has stuck with the nickname Graham, or any other blokes name that starts with a 'G' or even 'J'. He likes to mix it up. My nieces know me as Gee Gee.

Gemma works. Let's stick with that.

I like to do & make. 

I've always been the creative one in the family. When I was young, my mum would gather egg cartons, boxes and odds & ends for me in a tub. She called it my 'Do & Make Box'. My brother had a container of trucks, my sister had a tub full of dolls and tea sets. I just wanted to make stuff out of things. Corrugated cardboard, toilet rolls and cereal boxes. Do & Make heaven.

I take my work seriously. But, I'm no design wanker. I'm inclusive. I like to share ideas rather than keep my cards close to my chest. I like to have a laugh. Mostly at myself. If I trip over in public, I acknowledge it with a smirk rather than pretend it didn't happen. I get a buzz out of learning new (or old) tricks. I like to make lists and tick each item off as I complete them. When I'm on to a good idea, you will know. My face can't hide a thing. The moment the idea goes "click" I have trouble containing myself. That is the moment that drives me as a designer.
